I was attached to my transitor radioMy name is Jayne Burch. I grew up in the 60’s with the Beatles and amazing singer songwriters like Joni Mitchell and James Taylor. As a teenager I didn’t go anywhere without my transitor radio.

It’s been a dream of mine to sing and write my own songs for a long, long time. Last year I created this blog as a project to see if others shared my interest in songwriting. Since I’m a beginner I was stunned to find out how many others long to express themselves in song. I think there something universal about it.

This year I’ve decided to pick up the pace with the blog and make it more personal. If you are a beginning songwriter too my hope is you will share the journey with me.

I’m older than most who start on this path. I aspire to be an inspiration and proof that you can do anything you dream, just start.

Twenty years ago I started taking voice lessons and found that can sing! It is my joy and my bliss. I search out songs that are meaningful to me. My favorites come from the musical theater and folk ballad genre’s with an occasional county song (Lucinda Williams is a current favorite)

The Songs to Write Project will include a challenge to begin sometime after January 1, 2010 to write 100 songs in 100 days. I will be writing more posts about this project. My goal is to have at least 15 songs I feel are worth recording on an album by my birthday in 2012.
